Paint Wraps

A car’s style and identity is judged not only by “what’s under the hood”, but also how it looks and catches your eye. Changing a car or truck’s original paint job can be expensive, risky and time consuming. In addition, altering the original paint can often depreciate the resale value and usually violates the terms of a car lease.

What if you could change the color of your car or vehicle to give it a brand new appearance and also protect the original paint? What if there was a way for you to get a few more years of use from your otherwise perfectly good car while at the same time, preserving and even increasing your car’s resale value?

This is what that the automobile industry and millions of drivers have been waiting for, they just never knew it.

This is a great way to help consumers make informed decisions on which product is best for them by giving them more information in a media-rich format.

Have you ever been at a store holding three similar products, but just can’t decide which one is best for your needs? They all look the same to you, so it’s quite difficult to figure out at a glance. Now, if each of those three products had a Microsoft Tag on them, you could scan them and see more in-depth information—like a video or review site about the product—created by the advertiser or manufacturer to spotlight their content, giving you a much deeper engagement with and understanding of the item in your hands.

Have you seen a Microsoft Tag in a retail store? Did you scan it?

We re-wrapped our van. Used a completely different design and colors. Makes the old girl look new again. Wraps are digitally printed on a vinyl decal and applied to the vehicle as a skin. All design, printing, laminating and application was done by our certified staff. New wheels will be added too. A real make over for an old van.

art

From time to time I enjoy dabbling in the fine art rather than my usual commercial art.

Another unique project finished this week. 12' diameter center court decal, 3ft.x50ft end zone decals and two 3 ft x 11 ft sideline decals all designed, printed and applied. The 12 ft. decal was produced in three sections and tiled together. The end zone graphics needed to match the special Vegas gold color that was used on the rest of the graphics. We digitally printed the vinyl and used our cad cutting equipment to render the lettering. To save material and keep cost down the letters were squeezed close together then applied individually with the kerning done manually.

Less ice

Friday April 10, 2009, Good Friday. The ice is slowly melting away. Soon the docks will go in and boats will once again grace the mighty Sage Lake. There are a few bait fish hugging the shore. May be the big ones are flushing them to water's edge.

Alwards Meat Market Hale MI

Alwards Meat Market Hale MI, originally uploaded by de4570.
We picked up two choice New York strips to grill out tonight.
If you ever get near Hale, MI check out Alward's. Their bacon is homecured on site and is simply the best bacon you will ever have. In these times of pre-packaged mass produced meat products, it is sure nice to visit a real butcher shop where the meat is fresh and locally grown and the butchers are artists at their craft.

Re doing an old safe

The Shiawassee County Courthouse in Corunnna, MI is undergoung a renovation. Perrin Construction contracted my company to referbish two safes. I first took measuremants and photographs. Then created a pattern and produced 24kt. gold screen printed water slide decals for the names and flourshes. This is the same way it was originally produced. The rest of the process is done with "old school" brushes and leaf gold.

X-C Ski'n

X-C Ski'n, originally uploaded by de4570.

Jan 19, 2009 on the lake. I took the skis out for a two mile trip. Whew, I'm not as young as I use to be. I talked to a couple ice fisherman, one from California. He was vacationing here by pulling pike from a hole in the ice. A beautful day. Bright sunlight, new fresh powdery snow. Got to love it.

What I do

The morning I was born my mother was screen printing 7 foot bus benches, so you could say I have been in the business all of my life. I began to help my father Arlie Edwards hand letter at the tender age of 5 by filling in his lettering. As time passed I began to graduate to higher forms of lettering. By the time I was in 9th grade my lettering was on par with the old pros.

Our business has evolved over the last 60 plus years from brushes and paint to the digital age of rips and vinyl. By the way we began printing on pressure sensitive vinyl in the 50's Some of the first police decals ever made were printed by my mother Rosemary. Only the brushes have changed, not the art. A computer is mearly an expensive pencil in which to express a design. In much the same way as a piano is with a song. Some can play it, some think they can.

I love my work, it is my life!
